The Tiles

What makes zellige different

Zellige square tiles
Because each one is shaped, glazed and fired by hand. Variations in tone, texture and edge are the signature of authentic zellige, not a defect. Order all tiles for a project at once so they come from the same firing.
Clay from the Fez region, water, mineral glazes and fire. Nothing else. The clay body is terracotta, the glaze is glossy and water resistant.
Mdoudeb 5x5 for dense texture, Mzedej 10x10 for calmer walls, Hex for character, Bejmat for floors and herringbone, Talia for sculptural feature walls, Mosaics for statement panels. Samples help you decide.
Each firing is slightly different. We always ship one project from one batch. If you need more later, tell us your order number and we match as closely as possible.
Yes. Showers, bathrooms and splashbacks are classic uses. Use a waterproof adhesive and seal the grout.

Installation

Laying, grouting and care

Yes, with care. Zellige is thicker and irregular, so the tiler should dry lay first and use a flexible adhesive. We share a short guide with every order.
As narrow as possible, 1 to 2 mm, so the tiles read as one handmade surface. Use a fine, unsanded grout in a neutral tone.
The glaze does not. The grout should be sealed in wet areas. Unglazed bejmat for floors can be sealed for extra protection.
Warm water and a neutral soap. Avoid acidic or abrasive products that can dull the glaze.
In sheltered areas and mild climates, yes. For exposed UK exteriors ask us first, frost can affect glazed clay.
