Clay
Raw clay from the Fez region is soaked in water and hand filtered to remove stones and impurities.
At Atlas Zellige, our handcrafted tiles embody centuries of Moroccan artistry. Each tile is shaped, glazed and fired by hand, following a process passed down from master artisans known as maalems. Every tile tells a story of craftsmanship, culture and natural beauty. No two are ever the same.
From the palaces of Fez to your home
Zellige becomes essential to Mediterranean architecture, adorning palaces, riads and mosques.
Marinid madrasas raise the craft to divine geometry. Patterns still copied today are born.
Our maalems still soak, shape, glaze and cut by hand. Nothing industrial touches the clay.
We bring the workshop to the UK, with samples, advice and secure delivery to your door.
Clay, sun, glaze, fire and the menkach
Fez workshop
A maalem trains for years before he is trusted with the menkach. He reads the fired clay, feels the glaze and cuts each piece in a single strike. We work directly with these artisans in Fez, preserving the traditional process while meeting modern design standards.
Squares, hexagons, bejmat, talia and mosaics
Every Atlas Zellige tile is one of a kind, showcasing the artisan's touch, the sun, the fire and the earth. These subtle variations are not flaws. They are what make zellige alive, soulful and timeless.
